Minimum age: Participants must be 13 years of age at the time of the class.

Forge your own blade and learn how steel is heattreated.

During this 8 hour class we’ll forge simple blades for carving knives, hunting knives, blacksmithknives and similar. You’ll receive instruction on how to forge and shape a blade, and how to normalise, quench, and anneal a blade, in order for it to become a functional knife.

If you have no experience with blacksmithing, you can expect to end the day with one finished blade. If you have some experience – for example from a beginners blacksmith class part 1 – you can expect to finish a couple of blades. For that reason it’s highly recommended that you participate in a beginner class part 1, before attending this class, in order to get the most out of the day. 

Please be aware, that this class focuses on forging and heattreating blades. Sharpening and adding handles is not included in the schedule as we will primarily be working on the processes done in the forge.  

The blades can be handled and sharpened by a knifemaker – or you can bring the blade along a knifebuilding class, where you’ll typically have to bring your own blade to build a knife from (See for example (Not associated with Martillo Workshop): https://www.fof.dk/aftenskolen/fof-aarhus/knivkursus-weekendkursus#laesmere).

A maximum of 6 people can participate in this class, so there’s plenty of oportunity to receive guidance and ensure you end the day with a good result.

All materials are included in the price, and all needed tools are available in the forge.   There’s coffee and tea throughout the day. Bring a good lunch.
